法務顧問/ Legal Counsel

A global medical technology company is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its Legal & Compliance Department. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive legal and compliance support across Japan operations, manage commercial agreements and legal risks, and advise business functions on legal and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with legal issues and provide counsel to the business within the subsidiary
• Identify and analyse legal issues, prepare legal documents, present legal recommendations, and manage litigation and pre-claim matters
• Provide legal and compliance support across Product, Sales, Operations, MedEd, HR, Finance, and regulatory matters
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and documents, including distributor agreements, HCP consultation agreements, and procurement agreements such as leases
• Support new business initiatives and product launches from legal and regulatory perspectives
• Partner with Sales, Product, Operations, Compliance, Finance HRGA, and QA/RA teams on company-wide initiatives
• Work with external counsel when necessary
• Identify legal risks and provide pragmatic, growth-oriented solutions
• Manage internal committees, including governance and distributor management committees
• Act as corporate secretary and manage corporate seals
• Monitor industry developments and relevant local laws and regulations and initiate response projects with internal stakeholders when necessary
• Serve as a subject matter expert on local legal issues
• Manage whistleblower cases, internal investigations, and disciplinary procedures with Compliance and HR when necessary

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Law
• 4-6 years of working experience in private practice or in-house legal, with in-house experience preferred
• Admitted to practise law in the relevant country
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Strong knowledge of standard business software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to use AI effectively
• Native level Japanese; business level English

Preferred requirements:

• Passed the national Bar exam
• Legal experience in a multinational company
• Knowledge of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti-bribery, anti-competition law, labour law, Medical Device law, IP, and privacy
