A Tokyo-based skincare technology company is looking for a Scientific Affairs Lead - Skin Measurement. The selected candidate will lead the scientific direction of the skin measurement platform, oversee measurement validation and human studies, establish scientific standards and claims, and build research capabilities and external partnerships.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the existing scientific foundation, identify key scientific questions, and define research priorities and roadmap
• Lead scientific validation of skin measurements, including repeatability, reproducibility, agreement with reference methods, and relevance to intended use
• Design and oversee human skin studies with CROs, universities, and other research partners
• Guide the development of Japanese reference datasets, including methodology, segmentation, and sources of variation
• Establish evidence standards for measurements, methodologies, and external claims and exercise scientific judgement where evidence is insufficient
• Collaborate with the data, product, and engineering teams and build relationships with CROs, universities, and scientific experts
• Lead publication and external communication of the measurement methodology through scientific papers, conferences, and relevant channels
• Propose and build internal scientific capabilities and external resources to support the research agenda

Requirements:

• PhD in Skin Physiology, Dermatology, Cosmetic Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline
• More than 8 years of relevant experience in human skin research, skin measurement, cosmetic efficacy evaluation, or closely related work
• Demonstrated scientific leadership with the ability to define research questions, make independent judgements, establish priorities, and lead work through to completion
• Experience working effectively with scientific and research stakeholders
• Fluent level Japanese; working level English

Preferred requirements:

• Experience managing CROs
• First-author or corresponding-author publications
• Experience managing clinical or efficacy studies
• Experience in regulatory or claims review
• Experience developing external research partnerships
• Experience working across scientific and commercial teams
