Tokyo Rainbow Pride is one of Asia's largest events to promote sexual diversity with LGBTQ+ people and their allies (supporters), aiming to foster a society where all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live more positively in their own way. In 2024, the event was held under the theme ‘We will not give up until we change.’ Many companies, organisations and individuals supported the organisers' wish to continue their activities without giving up for a future where everyone can live fairly and happily. A total of 270,000 people visited the venue over the three days.
We believe that diversity and inclusivity build a strong workforce. When employees can be themselves in the workplace, it leads to new ideas and innovation. Therefore, we aim to foster a culture where everyone can be themselves and be respected.
At this year's Robert Walters Japan booth, with the theme 'What are your future hopes for the LGBTQ+ community in Japan', we asked visitors to deepen their understanding of the LGBTQ+ community by asking them about how the LGBTQ+ community in Japan has developed so far and what they hope for in the future. Many people who visited our booth supported us by filling in a survey on LGBTQ+ community and diversity in the hope that their opinions could make a difference for the future of Japan. We will use these valuable responses as important feedback as we explore how we can contribute to society in the future and what we can offer companies in Japan as a recruitment agency.
Senior Director - Financial Services, Legal, HR & Support, Tokyo
“It was incredibly inspiring to join Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024, a record-breaking year for attendance, support, and participation. We were proud to march with Business for Marriage Equality, a group of companies advocating for nationwide marriage equality.
The 30th anniversary theme, 'We won't give up until change happens,' powerfully reminds us of the progress made and the work still needed to achieve full LGBTQ equality in Japan.”
Senior Director – Commerce, Tokyo
“It was wonderful to see such a vibrant and diverse community come together for a shared cause.
We were honoured to be a part of the passion and energy that characterised Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024.”
We have gathered feedback from our employees and clients about how work for the LGBTQ+ community in Japan has progressed since 1994, and what is still needed to be done to create a better future. Read their responses here.
