A journey from London, to Melbourne, to Tokyo
Lee Sanders is the senior finance manager at Robert Walters Tokyo. His story exemplifies seizing opportunities and adapting to new environments within Robert Walters, embodying the spirit of the company's global community. Lee recounts his journey below.
"I transitioned from the London and Melbourne offices to the bustling Tokyo office in 2019. My decision to transfer was driven by a long-standing fascination with Japan and the desire to explore a new culture. The opportunity for an internal transfer within Robert Walters, especially to the largest office in the group, was too good to pass up.
Managing the transition posed its challenges, particularly as I had never been to Japan and didn't speak Japanese. However, my internal transfer provided a smoother path into the Tokyo office, allowing me to integrate quickly into the Robert Walters culture that permeates the company. Without this internal placement, my settling period would have been far more difficult and significantly altered my overall experience.
For those thinking to join our team at Robert Walters Japan, my advice is clear: have fun, be yourself, seek advice and knowledge for self-improvement, prioritize personal growth, be open-minded about career opportunities within the company, and work hard with pride in your delivery. This approach ensures rewards on both professional and personal levels."
