A multinational biopharmaceutical company is looking for an Associate Director, Public Affairs. The selected candidate will develop communications strategies, strengthen patient and stakeholder relationships, manage external and internal communications, support regulatory and media activities, and coordinate cross-functional priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Develop communications and advocacy strategies aligned with global direction and local market input
- Identify and create thought leadership and differentiation opportunities to demonstrate leadership in cell therapy and increase awareness of and access to CAR T-cell therapy
- Design and implement CAR T-cell therapy awareness programmes and advocacy activities
- Communicate data and regulatory milestones that demonstrate commitment to developing transformative medicines
- Develop external communications materials including globally aligned materials, key messages, Q&A documents, press releases, presentations, videos, and social media content
- Develop and strengthen relationships with patient and community leaders, media, and other influential organisations
- Maintain compliant two-way communications with patient and community leaders to represent patient needs in company programmes
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align strategic priorities and messaging across stakeholders
- Respond to media requests and coordinate interviews with opinion leader spokespeople as appropriate
- Monitor the external environment to proactively identify and manage issues
- Manage regulatory requirements in Japan and oversee compliant internal approvals and interactions with reviewers
- Manage agency partners and related budgets
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, business, or a science-oriented field
- More than 10 years of experience in healthcare communications
- Experience in media relations, issues management, and internal communications
- Knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends
- Knowledge of regulations and principles specific to communications for a biopharmaceutical company
- Experience managing multiple projects, including timelines, budgets, and priorities
- Experience with communication tactics and resources and their relationship to Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Government Affairs
- Ability to understand and accurately communicate complex science
- Fluent level Japanese and English
Preferred requirements:
- Knowledge of the Japanese political and health policy environment, including relevant processes and key stakeholders
- Oncology communication experience
- Patient advocacy experience
