Japan People Lead Director
A global professional services firm is seeking a Director, Japan People Lead. The selected candidate will lead people strategies, drive employee engagement, and ensure operational excellence in alignment with business goals.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on all people-related matters across the employee life cycle
- Collaborate with global and regional People leadership to design and execute strategies that enhance performance and development
- Lead and implement key People projects specific to the Japan region
- Oversee development of regional People teams through coaching and mentorship
- Develop and enforce people policies, procedures, and best practices in partnership with leadership
- Ensure compliance with local labour laws, standards, and organisational policies
- Advise on employee relations matters, including performance issues, terminations, and grievances
- Foster a culture aligned with the firm’s global vision and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and innovation
- Oversee People operations, including Workday, payroll, and service queries
- Support automation and operational efficiency improvements
- Collaborate effectively with support functions locally and across APAC
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in HR, Business, or related field
- More than 10 years of HR experience
- More than 5 years in leadership roles with experience scaling teams and offices
- Significant experience in the professional services sector
- Experience in change management and organisational development
- Proven track record in global HR operations and service delivery
- Strong knowledge of HR practices and labour laws across multiple countries
- Possess a valid professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is highly desirable
- Fluent level Japanese and English
