A global pharmaceutical company is looking for a Japan Payroll & Local Benefits Manager. The selected candidate will oversee payroll operations and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with Japanese labour laws and corporate policies. This is a hybrid setup role.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing in collaboration with external payroll vendors
  • Validate payroll inputs and outputs, including salary, bonuses, deductions, and statutory contributions
  • Ensure timely payroll execution in compliance with Japanese labour laws and tax regulations
  • Manage payroll calendar, deadlines, reports, reconciliations, and payroll controls
  • Act as the primary contact for payroll vendors, monitoring performance and conducting regular reviews
  • Manage local benefits programs, liaise with providers, and support employees with benefits-related queries
  • Ensure compliance with Japanese benefits regulations and reporting requirements
  • Prepare and submit statutory filings and reports, supporting internal and external audits
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to align payroll and benefits processes with business needs
  • Support employee lifecycle events from a payroll and benefits perspective

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in HR, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • More than 5 years of experience in Japan payroll and benefits administration
  • Prior experience with payroll vendors and managing outsourced payroll operations
  • Experience in a multinational company or regional payroll role is ideal
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese labour laws, tax regulations, and statutory benefits
  • Proficient in payroll systems and MS Excel
  • Familiarity with Workday, SAP, or other HRIS platforms preferred
  • Professional level Japanese and English
