An international specialty chemicals company is looking for an Account Manager. The selected candidate will implement business strategies, deliver sales and margin targets, strengthen customer and distributor relationships, develop new business, and drive profitable growth across assigned chemical markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement business strategies and EH&S policies in Japan in collaboration with the Japan Country Manager, Marketing, Commercial Support, EH&S, and Technical teams
  • Deliver sales and contribution margin budgets for assigned accounts and segments and prepare annual sales budgets
  • Maintain effective working capital through accurate sales forecasting and timely customer invoice payments
  • Monitor monthly sales forecasts against delivery and market conditions and implement gap closure actions
  • Lead and improve business processes covering distributor performance reviews, legal matters, account plans, key account management, pricing, customer complaints, customer satisfaction, and receivables
  • Participate in business meetings and maintain effective internal and external communication
  • Monitor market intelligence, market dynamics, and political developments in Japan to identify new opportunities and support market development
  • Develop proposals for strategy changes and potential investments based on market opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with key accounts, distributors, and commercial partners to support profitable growth
  • Collaborate with Japan and international teams across supply chain, marketing, technical, and EH&S functions and share best practices
  • Manage distributor and agent relationships across assigned markets
  • Identify and develop new product and application opportunities while responding to competitive activity and market development needs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in chemistry or chemical engineering or equivalent preferred
  • More than 3 years of experience in sales or marketing of specialty chemical products in relevant industries
  • Extensive knowledge of the Japanese chemical industry and specialised knowledge in markets such as polyurethane, electronics, semiconductors, epoxy resin and adhesives, or paints and coatings
  • Proven track record of growing sales and profit in Japan and developing new business opportunities in specialty chemicals
  • Experience identifying, developing, and converting new business opportunities through direct customer engagement and/or channel partners
  • Knowledge of customer satisfaction, pricing, technical problem-solving, legal issues, product registration, commercial policies, business ethics, and specialty chemical products
  • Good level English

Preferred requirements:

  • Technical background and understanding
  • Experience in technical or technical sales roles
  • Experience handling amines, surfactants, or similar chemistries
