FIBサイエンティスト/ FIB Scientist

A global company specialising in materials science and surface treatment technologies is seeking a FIB Scientist. The selected candidate will support advanced materials characterisation and failure analysis using FIB-SEM and complementary analytical techniques, while providing technical support to R&D, application engineers, customer support teams, and customers.

Responsibilities:

• Operate Focused Ion Beam tools and connected instruments including EDX and EBSD, and perform lamella preparation
• Perform sample preparation and materials science analyses
• Prepare reports and archive results according to established standards
• Optimise and develop sample preparation techniques and application methods
• Develop automated digital evaluation routines
• Manage customer requests and coordinate work scheduling to optimise FIB resource utilisation
• Build collaborative relationships with business units and support coating process development and troubleshooting analysis
• Cooperate with worldwide FIB teams, particularly the Berlin team
• Provide technical consulting and training to customers, application teams, and R&D
• Conduct analyses in the presence of customers
• Identify and manage external cooperation partners and coordinate outgoing requests such as TEM
• Maintain laboratory documentation, quality assurance, and safety compliance
• Ensure laboratory equipment is operationally ready and coordinate service technicians
• Ensure the confidentiality of information

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Surface Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline
• Hands-on experience with metallographic preparation, microscopy, FIB-SEM systems, and materials characterisation techniques in the PCB plating or semiconductor industry
• Profound understanding of crystallography, metallic coatings, surface analysis, and failure analysis methodologies
• Strong analytical and technical skills in statistical data evaluation and reporting
• Ability and willingness to work in shifts
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
• Proficient in English
