法務顧問/ Legal Counsel

A global eCommerce and digital platform company is looking for a Legal Counsel. The selected candidate will support a wide range of regulatory, commercial, operational, employment, and governance matters while collaborating closely with local and global stakeholders. This is a hybrid setup role.

Responsibilities:

• Support compliance with Japanese laws and regulations applicable to e-commerce and digital platforms
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess potential business impact
• Conduct legal research and translate legal requirements into practical internal guidance
• Assist with compliance under key Japanese regimes, including payment services, platform transparency, and advertising regulations
• Support seller and user management matters, including complaints, disputes, warnings, and contract terminations
• Review and update terms of use, seller policies, and internal operational guidelines
• Draft and review standard commercial agreements, including seller, advertising, outsourcing, and lease agreements
• Support cross-border and English language contracts in coordination with global legal teams
• Assist with legal review of new services, features, and business initiatives
• Identify legal risks and support internal risk assessments and governance practices
• Support employment and labour matters, including policy review, employee relations, and investigations
• Conduct legal research on Japanese labour and employment laws
• Assist with intellectual property protection, including trademark and copyright enforcement
• Support takedown requests and related communications
• Collaborate closely with business, product, operations, Trust and Safety, and customer service teams
• Participate in regional and global legal projects and communicate with global stakeholders in English

Requirements:

• Qualified attorney in Japan with Bengoshi certification
• 2-5 years of legal experience in a law firm and or corporate legal department
• Experience handling Japanese commercial law and consumer protection regulations
• Proficient in legal research, risk assessment, and contract drafting and review
• Fluent level Japanese; proficient in English

Preferred requirements:

• Prior in-house legal experience, including secondment or part-time arrangements
• Experience or strong interest in e-commerce, technology, or platform businesses
• Experience handling English contracts or working with overseas stakeholders
• Basic experience or strong interest in employment and labour law
• Exposure to regulatory compliance related to payment services, platform regulation, or advertising laws
