材料開発研究担当/ Material Scientist

A foreign textile company is searching for a Material Scientist. The selected candidate will be in charge of improving material performance and colour consistency, ensuring QA/QC, and supporting factory trials.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and optimise synthetic yarns with a focus on polymer selection, extrusion, and processing
• Apply polymer chemistry and material science expertise to improve yarn performance, colour fastness, and stability during production
• Conduct experiments to understand colour behaviour in polymer-based yarns and develop processes to minimise variability
• Establish and implement QA/QC protocols for materials in the Tokyo lab, ensuring reproducibility and adherence to performance specifications
• Visit partner factories in Japan and Taiwan to oversee manufacturing trials, troubleshoot issues, and ensure smooth scale-up
• Collaborate with ML team and Textile Engineers to integrate material insights into development workflows
• Maintain documentation of experiments, protocols, and QA/QC results and contribute to technical reports and deliverables

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or above in Polymer Science, Material Science, Textile Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
• Strong background in polymer science and synthetic material development
• Proven track record of conducting QA/QC in a lab or industrial setting
• Business level written and verbal English and Japanese

Preferred requirements:

• Experience with polymer processing techniques (extrusion, spinning, compounding)
• Experience with textile colouration processes and colour consistency challenges in polymer-based yarns
• Experience working with international manufacturing partners, ideally in Japan or Taiwan
• Familiarity with textile performance testing standards (JIS, ISO, ASTM)
• Ability to bridge material science with practical textile manufacturing requirements
