ペイロールSME/ Payroll SME

An international HR services company is seeking a Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME). The selected candidate will oversee end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring compliance with Japanese regulations and delivering expert payroll advisory to clients and internal teams. This is a hybrid setup role.

Responsibilities:

• Execute timely and accurate payroll processing for Japan-based employees
• Ensure compliance with Japanese labour laws, tax regulations, and statutory reporting
• Calculate statutory deductions, benefits, and government remittances
• Conduct payroll reconciliations, internal audits, and compliance reviews
• Identify and implement payroll process improvements and automation initiatives
• Develop and maintain payroll documentation and SOPs specific to Japan
• Act as a trusted point of contact for payroll-related inquiries
• Liaise with external vendors, payroll providers, and government agencies
• Support onboarding and payroll implementation for new clients
• Provide expert payroll advice on best practices and compliance

Requirements:

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Japanese payroll operations
• Experience in payroll implementation, optimisation, or system integration preferred
• Deep knowledge of Japanese payroll legislation, income tax, social insurance, and labour laws
• Proficient in Japanese payroll software and MS Excel
• Possess a valid payroll certification preferred
• Fluent level written and verbal Japanese and English
