Head of HR Japan
A global science and technology company is looking for a Head of HR Japan. The selected candidate will lead local HR strategy, talent initiatives, employee relations, and HR operations while aligning business goals with global standards.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Managing Director and HQ to shape and execute local HR strategy
- Align HR priorities with business goals and organisational development needs
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, strengthening engagement and dialogue
- Improve the employee experience, integration, and trust in the HR function
- Promote an inclusive and professional workplace culture aligned with company values
- Oversee workforce budgeting, people analytics, and key HR reporting
- Ensure local HR practices comply with company objectives, global policies, and Japanese labour law
- Lead talent acquisition and build hiring strategies for current and future business needs
- Drive onboarding, performance management, learning, career development, and succession planning
- Strengthen leadership capability, employee engagement, and managerial effectiveness
- Oversee compensation and benefits, payroll coordination, and HR administration
- Review and enhance HR policies, procedures, and tools to improve consistency and efficiency
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience in a senior HR leadership role (international or matrix organisation is preferred)
- Prior experience in personnel cost management, budgeting, HR reporting, and people-related data analysis
- Proven experience in overseeing both strategic HR topics and operational HR matters with a hands-on approach
- Understanding of core HR areas, including talent acquisition, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and learning and development
- Knowledge of Japanese labour law and HR compliance requirements
- Fluent level written and verbal Japanese and English
