Head of Foreign Trade

A global automotive components manufacturer is seeking a Head of Foreign Trade. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to international trade regulations while driving process improvements and supporting SAP system deployment initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee export control compliance across Japan and Southeast Asia, ensuring alignment with US, EU, and local regulations
• Conduct training sessions, audits, and provide ongoing support to regional entities
• Coordinate customs management activities and enhance collaboration between plants, transport teams, and logistics partners
• Identify process improvement opportunities to simplify export/import operations and reduce costs
• Support the regional rollout of SAP GTS S/4HANA as a key business-side specialist
• Lead and develop the regional trade compliance team while maintaining strong business partnerships

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or above
• Experience in 3PL, Trading business or import/export department within manufacturing industry
• Prior experience with customs processing and Japan’s regulations (FTA’s) for customs import / export processing (other countries in Asia is ideal)
• Proven experience in SAP R/3/HANA (SD/MM) and SAP GTS is a plus
• Understanding of Japan and US regulations for Export Controls (EU is a preferred)
• Familiarity with key export control topics like sanctioned party screening (End user list), Embargoes, End Usage, US (Re-) Export Controls, and Classification and Technology Transfer
• Possess valid qualification/license in Customs Broker in Customs field, STC Advanced/Expert in Export Control Field is ideal
• Native level Japanese; business level reading, spoken, and written English
